Voltitsa at the Metropolitan Museum of Art

Voltitsa at the Metropolitan Museum of Art

$10.00

Join us at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Greek & Roman Art wing for our second “Voltitsa” (little walk) on Saturday, March 4, at 5 PM. We’ll gather as a community to appreciate Ancient Greek/Hellenic art and artifacts, with the option to have a meal together afterward.

The intention of our Voltitsa is to encourage mindful viewing of art, new perspectives, community, and ultimately to help you find your own “muse” or inspiration to carry forward.  We’re excited to focus on the Met’s “Chroma: Ancient Sculpture in Color” exhibit, which shows how ancient artifacts appeared in their time: in color! It “reveals the colorful backstory of polychromy—meaning “many colors” in Greek—and presents new discoveries of surviving ancient color on artworks in The Met’s world-class collection. Exploring the artistic practices and materials used in ancient polychromy, the exhibition highlights cutting-edge scientific methods used to identify ancient color and examines how color helped convey meaning in antiquity, and how ancient polychromy has been viewed and understood in later periods.”

Interested? More details: Maria Constantinides (The Akia Shop) and Kristina Headrick (Yia Mas) will be your hosts for the day, guiding you to several pre-selected pieces of art for discussion and facilitating your time to sketch and journal afterward freely. Then, there’s the option to walk together somewhere for a shared meal (the Voltitsa is meant to be equal parts guided and free-flowing so you can find the rhythm that inspires you :)
